Groundwork
Coventry was formed in 1995
as both a not-for-profit company and registered charity. The Trust
is a member of the Federation of Groundwork Trusts and subscribes
to Groundwork's vision of a society made up of sustainable communities
which are vibrant, healthy and safe; that respect the local and
global environment; and where individuals and enterprise prosper.
The Trust primarily uses the environment as a tool
to build confidence and skills, and thereby create sustainable communities.
To do so effectively the Trust works closely with local and regional
partners and agencies to deliver its six strategic objectives:
Communities - building stronger
neighbourhoods
Youth - realising young people's potential
Education - learning, citizenship and sustainability
Land - reconnecting people with their surroundings
Business - integrating the economy and the environment
Training - training for work and stimulating
enterprise
Most of the Trust's funding is secured from bid
preparation and requires the successful delivery of outputs and
outcomes. The Trust has therefore delivered various programmes to
time, budget and quality. Funding sources include Single Regeneration
Budget, European Regional Development Fund, European Social Fund,
National Lottery, landfill tax, private sector, etc.
The Trust has developed from humble beginnings
of five staff to its current size of approaching thirty. Turnover
has steadily risen, as has the type of activities undertaken by
the Trust. The value of Trust's programmes in 2002/2003 was around
1.4 million pounds.
